Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House, Bowness-on-Windermere

An exceptional example of the architectural movement, Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House conserves the fluidity and dynamism of the Arts and Crafts style. Almost unaltered since it was built at the turn of the century, every piece of furniture and decoration in the interior of the house belongs to Arts and Crafts. Walk on your own through the rooms of the house to get a feel for the floor plan and style. Enjoy the views from the upper floors of the gardens and surrounding countryside. In addition to the house itself, explore the exhibitions on the lower floors. After looking at the architecture, take a look in the gift ship for an interesting souvenir and have a hand-made snack from the tearoom. • The tea room is a lovely place to have a lunch in stunning surroundings. The bread is made on the premises and there is a wonderful aroma. I had soup that was delicious. Food is reasonably priced. There is ample parking, spotless toilets and a lift for disabled patrons to access most of the first floor. There is a charge to view the house, but the gardens are free to browse and there is a haha.
  • This house is really quite beautiful. If you like the Arts and Crafts movement it's a must. Cafe was slow in service and really limited in choice. Suggest you choose elsewhere for refreshments. Overall a very nice visit.
