The museum not only cherishes a large menagerie of preserved natural history specimens, including birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, eggs and shells; but also collections of fossils, rocks and minerals, ancient hand axes and even an Egyptian mummy. The society itself has various interest groups which include Botany, Ornithology, Zoology, Entomology, Science, Astronomy, Geology, History, Egyptology and Archaeology.
The BNSS runs an extensive programme of events, including lectures, study groups, field meetings, cultural visits and social events. Talks are given on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons and Saturday afternoons.

First time I have visited. Garden at the back is lovely. Inside there are lots and varied exhibits and experts on hand to give you more information. The Egyptology room was great...they have a mummy in the collection and a restoration will be beginning ina few weeks which members of the public are welcome to watch-including when they open the coffin!
Fun for kids who are slightly older. My daughter at 9 really enjoyed it but not at 7 because she was more easily distracted. But at 9 she found it fascinating and extremely interesting. Lots for her to see and learn. Thoroughly recommend
