Bodmin Jail, Bodmin

3.2
An eerie reminder of the squalor in prisons during the 18th and 19th centuries, exhibits at Bodmin Jail have been likened to the London Dungeon. Much of the prison is in ruins, but sections are open to the public. See how an inmate may have lived during England's thriving Victorian age through the exhibits, which use mannequins dressed as prisoners inside the cramped cells. Before you try your courage in the cells with an evening "Ghost Walk," stop by the Witness Box Wine Bar or the on-site restaurant, which features local produce. • Came here with my partner as he loves true crime. Whilst it is factual it was also pretty boring. Lots of things to read but this takes more time than walking around the actual attraction. The...  more »

  • Visited yesterday. On site parking for disabled (even though its not wheelchair friendly?) They do a free carer for each mobile disabled person, but not shown on their website. So I asked and we got a free entry with disabled person. Really good, atmospheric place, you can feel the history. Good guide who knows everything.Very small tight twisty stairs up and down to each level, difficult even for agile people. Wanted to see the actual cells but these are being revamped to become hotel rooms. Would have liked to walk along the landings and stairs and see kitchens and outside spaces but not accessible. Otherwise really good, felt so happy to be alive this century and not then! Really feel for the unfortunates who ended up there. It's a good place when its raining and café good value, nice food. We will visit again next year.
  • My friends and I came here for a day out and we were really impressed! The staff are lovely, the exhibits are great and a big thank you do Jess who talked to us for ages and made our day here amazing! She was so knowledgeable and passionate about what happened here and left an impression on all of us!
