  • Lovely picturesque location. The staff at the entrance/shop are very informative. Belsay Hall is a lovely building, complete on the outside, and nice to walk around inside. But, there's little or no information to explain what has happened until you get to a room completely void of plaster, fixings, or ceiling. It's only on entry to this room there is a noticeboard explaining the building's demise. The Castle is a 1/2 mile walk through a picturesque wooded gorge. It's a pleasant Castle albeit smaller than I'd expected. Part derelict, the Castle is unfurnished and some floors/ceilings are missing, but it is still a joy to investigate the building room by room. A spiral staircase allows you access to the roof and battlements. However, today (August Bank Holiday), we had been disallowed access to the Castle roof, without prior explanation.
  • Lovely hall, castle, and gardens. Gardens were lovely and had the opportunity to take a lot of photos. The tea room was equally lovely where we had a scone and drink - reasonably priced too. Excellent that this place offers a free carer for those with additional needs. However, accessibility could be improved by having tarmac/concrete pavements rather than gravel as this was difficult to push on. Also, from the income Belsay receive from paying visitors, members, and fundraising etc, it would be nice to see such a large place catering to the needs of those with disabilities who need a hoist to access bathroom facilities - a changing places toilet would be a very gratefully welcomed addition to this scenic place.
