Little Solisbury Hill, Batheaston

4.7
#8 of 26 in Nature in Somerset
An Iron Age earthwork and the presumed site of King Arthur's legendary victory over the Saxons, Little Solisbury Hill offers sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and the town of Bath. The site became widely known in popular culture after 1977, when Peter Gabriel wrote a hit song inspired by and named after the hill. An hour-long hike across the countryside, through grass fields and wildflowers, will take you to a flat plateau on the hilltop 191 m (625 ft) above sea level. See the remains of the medieval field system, the triangulation station, and a turf maze made by environmentalists protesting against the construction of a bypass road.
