The Roman Baths, Bath

See how ancient Romans bathed at The Roman Baths. Hot springs have bubbled up in Bath since time immemorial, and the Romans began developing a temple and public bathhouse here around 60 CE. Today, you can tour the various sections of the incredibly well-preserved complex, including the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, and the Roman Bath House. The main area of interest is the open-air, column-lined Great Bath. When you enter the site, make sure to take the audio guide that's included in the ticket price. After touring the different areas, enter the museum to see artifacts collected from the original bath. As tempting as it might be to bathe yourself where ancient Romans once did, the site does not permit you to enter the water. A visit to The Roman Baths represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Bath online road trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • We haven’t been to Bath for 32 years, so to come back to see how they have developed this great historical attraction was a great surprise. You have to pre-book, as it is timed entry. You get a free....  more »
  • Attended here recently and was a little disappointed. They have plenty of staff along the route to keep people moving and ensure social distancing etc . Some sections are closed where they can’t...  more »

  • Well, I had planned my visit via a guided tour (picks you up from London-Victoria Coach station and drops you off during the evening time back near Victoria) that turned out to be unexpectedly and surprisingly sweet. The guide explained everything about the Roman Baths to us throughout the journey in an utterly professional and a comprehensively pleasing way. Now coming on to the city of Bath itself; It's architecture, scenic beauty, countenance, historical & archaeological importance.... are second to none. Roman Baths, as you might have seen in the pictures are nothing but beautifully constructed spas and bathing pools, built around the natural hot water thermal geysers that were used by the great Romans who invaded Britain back in the day. The tickets for visiting the Roman Baths were included in the package, however, there's a £4 entry fee if you'd want to visit the Bath Abbey (you don't wanna miss it, it's only £4, big deal!). But it's certainly worth it. Don't forget to check out the arc-like buildings called as "Circus". That's one picturesque spot. Then there's the beautiful city centre for the ones who prefer shopping their heads out and refilling their tummies. There's loads of brands out there with their outlets and many restaurants, pubs and cafes to devour and gobble up ravenously. All in all, it's a perfect one-day tour/excursion. Mind you, it's crowded and busy during summers (but also much beautiful) and I visited it during the winter period when there were lesser number of people visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hope you find this review helpful
  • A fantastic preservation of one of the most unique features of Roman Britain. Any history lover, casual or full, will enjoy what is on offer in this museum. You will be given a self guided tour packed with detail, also includes plenty of audio info points for children. You'll see the well preserved remains of a temple as well as the well known bathing section. At the end you will be able to try the warm spring water straight from the tap! Supposedly it's good for you but I'll leave that up to you!
