How often do you get to visit a garden designed by a poet? Prior Park Landscape Gardens (NT) offers that experience set in a valley of no small natural beauty with views of the city of Bath. Literally the prototype of the "English garden," it has influenced the design of other such gardens throughout Europe. Only a handful of Palladian bridges remain in the world, and you’ll find one of them here--you can even walk across it. Relax in the verdant grass surrounding a manmade lake, complete with a tea shed. Stroll the nearly 10 km (6.25 mi) skyline to gaze at the natural beauty and check out Iron Age and Roman-era constructions. Finish off your visit with a picnic at the park; you can snag a rug at the boat shop if you forgot your blanket. I'm writing this from the perspective of a National trust member - entry fee is included in the membership. It's a nice park to walk around, with some magnificent views of Bath, Prior Park School and the bridge. We visited on a lovely sunny day which helped immensely and it was a relaxing way to withdraw a few hours. There are some great views, it's a nice relaxing walk and place to while away some time. The cafe is nice but quite expensive. We walked around with the kids and they had some fun exploring the woods. A few points worth considering, there is nowhere to park and a lot of the side streets don't allow parking... Research where to park before you go or get the bus. If you're not an NT member this is a fairly expensive day out for a family. It really is just a walk through some very English fields/ woods and a small lake.. Don't expect any exotic plants or clever landscaping. Overall it's a nice way to spend a relaxing few hours, and is a lovely park on the edge of the city but don't expect much for kids to do.. If they get bored easily they may not really appreciate it.
I loved spending the day in this park! The gardens are serene. Several times I went around a curve in the path and there was a surprising feature! Totally enjoyed it! The Tea Cart had a lovely cream tea complete with scones, clotted cream and jam. Very tasty! And their panini was wonderful! Their food was better than the restaurant I ate at last night!💕 I thoroughly enjoyed my day here and can't recommend it strongly enough!
