#2 of 6 in Zoos & Aquariums in Cumbria
Located in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty, The Lake District Wildlife Park shelters several hundred animals. Spread across approximately 10 hectares (25 acres), the grounds' natural enclosures allow visitors to observe both domestic and exotic species, including gibbons, zebras, deer, birds of prey, and a variety of reptiles. The park regular hosts falconry shows and lectures about rare breeds of domestic animals. Families with small children can take advantage of tractor rides, an adventure playground, and animal feedings, which occur at regular intervals throughout the day. In addition to picnic and rest areas, the park also contains a small restaurant and gift shop. • A lovely relaxed family afternoon. The park entrance creeps up on you a bit, so don't approach too swiftly. The car park looks like you have to walk along a road to get to the park. Don't worry, it's just the approach and has no real traffic. The cafe is very smart with polite and attentive staff and a reasonable selection of food. The park itself is well spread out over a surprisingly wide area with an interesting mix of animals, all in beautiful condition. The children's play area is good and has obviously had some creative thought in its design. A very cheerful lady was on the entrance /gift shop desk. The shop itself is very reasonably priced. Beware the wasps (grandma got stung). We had a lovely couple of hours. 😊
  • Enjoyed this trip. Not a very big place but well-kept, with healthy-looking animals - you can buy food to feed some of them. Play park and soft play provide further diversions. Cafe food didn't seem very adventurous. Staff welcoming, toilets clean. A few parking spaces for the disabled are right next to the entrance, otherwise it's a short walk along a farm access road.
