Penrhyn Castle (National Trust), Bangor

#1 of 15 in Museums in Gwynedd
The mammoth 19th-century neo-Norman Penrhyn Castle (National Trust) offers opulent furnishings inside and a spectacular natural setting outside. In the halls, see a 900 kg (1 ton) slate bed made for Queen Victoria, elaborate carvings, plasterwork, and mock-Norman furniture. The castle also has a large collection of paintings that you could spend hours gazing at. The restored kitchens are a hit with visitors, and the stable block contains two museums: one for industrial railways and another for model railways. Outside the buildings, be sure to explore the surrounding parkland, exotic tree and shrub collection, and enchanting Victorian walled garden. • Jolly good day spent at Penrhyn Castle. All National Trust staff are helpful and friendly. But they seemed to go the extra mile here. Especially Roger the castle transport driver. Very impressive place with tons of stuff to see, loads to explore. Go back in time with The Victorian Kitchen. We really enjoyed The Walled Garden and inside the castle. Truly amazing architecture and artifacts inside. The day went so quick. That's how you've had a good time 🏰
  • Really beautiful building and unique gardens. Unfortunately when we visited parts of the castle were closed off for a film crew. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, as I've found in all National Trust properties. It's well worth a visit for a walk around the grounds alone.
