Trip Planner: Europe / UK / England / West Sussex / Arun District / Arundel / Arundel Castle and Gardens
It's good to be the King, but Arundel Castle and Gardens shows that being the Duke isn't half bad either. Established in the 11th century and owned by the Duke of Norfolk's family for more than 400 years, this estate features an exemplary English medieval castle and luxurious gardens. Take a self-guided tour through the castle to see opulently furnished rooms. Information placards give you context and history for most of what you'll find here, and the structure provides expansive views of the South Downs and River Arundel. Head into the Fitzalan Chapel, the burial place for members of the Duke of Norfolk's family and a fine example of Gothic architecture. Outside, walk through the exquisite gardens, the crown jewel of which is the Collector Earl's Garden. Admire the green-oak pagodas and the Italianate design of Oberon's Palace here. All of the gardens feature a colorful variety of flowers and other plants. Visit the coffee shop for lighter refreshments or the restaurant for a full meal. Arundel Castle and Gardens Reviews
A beautiful little garden with surprises at every turn. Have visited three times during the summer using our Histioric properties card. Try and find the cork trees, they are amazing and such a rarity.... more »
Had been in the castle in winter before but was still worth another visit. The ground however are the best part. Beautiful gardens to walk around. Cafe is nice but a little expensive. more »
Amazing! So beautiful and so much to do. You will fill an entire day wondering through this magical castle and town. The castle cars (little taxi) take you from the train to the castle at such a minimal cost. The town has so many wonderful places to eat at. It was the perfect end to an amazing holiday.
Extremely well preserved castle. The library was amazing the rest of the rooms very attractive. Great portraits. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Gardens were absolutely beautiful.
