Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Aberdeen

4.6
Situated on the historic Shiprow in the center of Aberdeen, Aberdeen Maritime Museum tells the story of this maritime city and its rich history. Built in converted historical buildings, the museum offers spectacular views of the harbor. Enjoy interactive exhibits on fishing techniques, and even get the knack of how to park your ship in the harbor. Learn about the city's relationship with "North Boats," the offshore oil industry, the history of shipbuilding, and fast clipper ships. Entry is free and the museum is a good rainy-day activity. Furthermore, the museum provides a service on maritime objects and paintings, offering advice on potential value. If you drive, parking on Shiprow can be expensive, so park in a nearby shopping center and walk to the museum instead. Photography requires prior permission, so ask beforehand. • The museum is laid out on multi levels and has a large variety of stuff from a very broad spectrum of history. You will get as much out of the museum as you are willing to look and to read.  more »
  • Really informative about how fishing started in the Aberdeenshire area. How oil rigs and platforms operate the difference between the two. Plus lots more info. What Aberdeen harbour used to look like....  more »

  • Amazing exhibits with well written information sheets. Tells the history of the areas industry with an emphasis on the modern gas workings. Very informative, I spent 3 hours in there, no problem. Cafe was good and appreciated at the end of my visit. I would suggest getting the lift to the top floor and work you way down. Cafe is at the bottom.
  • Nice welcome indeed. :) yet after that, not so much. 3 & 4 year old boys were continually followed and told off. If you have issues with children touching displays, don't put them at their height. Then again, if you want families to visit then expect touching from children!
