Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, Abbotsbury

4.3
#3 of 17 in Parks in Weymouth
If you’re visiting the popular Chesil Beach, stop by Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, a walled garden surrounded by woodlands. The garden is separate from the site of the now-demolished house, where its maker, Lord Ilchester, once lived. While the house is interesting to see, the real magic waits for you in nature. The gardens lend a sub-tropical air to the site with palm trees, and the valley garden has some of the most extensive gunnera plantings in England. The gardens boast various exotic plants, many of which were newly discovered species when they were first introduced. Stretch your legs on the pathways of the woodland, or simply take time to learn about the breathtaking flora. • This beautiful garden which has matured over the past 20 years is an oasis of peace. It is suitable for everyone single travellers, families, including dogs. There is an interesting gift shop and a lovely restaurant. Don't feel you have to pay to visit, if you have already seen the garden or can't stop ling just pop in for coffee or lunch!!
  • You definitely get the feel of the subtropics here! Wheelchair friendly routes through the regions. Dog friendly too. Well worth a visit. Food is of good quality and reasonably priced. A visit to the shop and especially the plant sales should not be missed!
