Борисоглебский собор строился... more »"Borisoglebsky" Cathedral was built in Chernigov in the middle of 12 century in the territory of the Kremlin between shaft and Spassky Cathedral on the ruins of the foundations stone 11 century. Boris and Gleb Cathedral was built as a temple-Tomb, as evidenced by deep niches — arkasolii (space for burials), located in the North and South walls. Burial may have been and in galleries — additions that were not preserved (now the bases withdrawn on the surface) and underneath the side aisles of the Cathedral. Construction of the Cathedral of Chernihiv was founded by Prince Gleb of David Svyatoslavich. Presumably construction was finished in the year 1123, and probably was connected with the death of a son. The Cathedral is dedicated to the heavenly patrons of Kyiv-Rus Princes-Boris and Gleb. After the decline of Kievan Rus lands fell to the destiny of the Polish-Lithuanian State. During its existence the Boris and Gleb Cathedral was destroyed many times, and in consequence repeatedly rebuilt and restored. Each time its architecture acquired new traits. The Cathedral was greatly damaged in 1611 during the fire in 1627-1628 years of Polish nobility during the intervention turned the Cathedral into a Dominican Church, and in 1659, he again became an orthodox temple. In 1672 year Boris and Gleb Cathedral was rebuilt in the Baroque style, to its western façade was built octagonal Rotunda in the belfry-porch (it was dismantled during the restoration).
