Balatlar Church or Sinope Koimesis Church was built in A.D. 660 by the Byzantines as a rectangular basilica. The church is located in the northern province of Sinop, Turkey, on the shores of the Black Sea.

All frescoes of Jesus, Mary, mother of Jesus and saints are heavily damaged because of the human and weather factors.

  • Don't be misguided by the word "church": there is nothing left from it other than north and south walls, which can not be reached either because it's under renovation and fenced out. This place does.....  more »
  • An old Roman Bath, conerted into a church, and than some parts became a graveyard. A very large hatch underneath. Excavation in progress.  more »
  • The oldest historical ruins in the center of Sinop province. You are not in the mood for the locked excavation continues.

  • It's a very old building. The church was built on the old Roman bath. The murals are on the board. There were mosaic paintings from underneath. The archaeological work continues.
