  • The Ravanda fortress is located within the boundaries of Belenözü (Ravandan) village, 24 km. northwest of Kilis, in the district of Polateli. The fortress, which has a very wide angle to the east of Afrin River, is built on a high conical hill. The castle was carved by the pointy hill of the mountain. The buildings belonging to the castle are on the top of the summit. The walls and the corners of the square and half round, which are different from each other, are still standing. The majority of the wall is collapsed and covered with soil. The inner part of the castle has two large water cistern with stairs on the front side of the eastern part. It is believed that the cisterns can be mowed to the Afrin River in a secret way. In the northern part there is a building remnant that is thought to be a palace. The entrance door to the castle is south. It is understood that the door is repaired on various dates, the structure style and the difference in the material used. The width of the inner fortress door is 2.20 m., the height is 3.10 meters. It was not possible to determine how many times the fortress was. Since archaeological excavations have not been carried out in and around the Ravanda fortress, information about the history of the fortress is based on the prediction and the civilizations that established the region. Yesemek Sculpture Workshop's proximity to Ravanda fortress and the Hittite architecture seen in the castle because of traces of the Hittites used by the view of the heavy pressure. The castle which was dominated by the Memlukans for a long time was used during the Byzantine period and during the Ottoman period during the Arab Invass. In this period, new additions to the castle were expanded. The remaining part of the day is the inner fortress. There are only rashes and foundations in some areas of the outer fortress walls. In Islamic revoluations, additions have been made, and the arbitration has been extended. The exact information of the castle is Xı. Century and the Crusades in these years. Islam and Latin sources speak of the castle's existence during the Crusades for the first time. "Er-Ravendan" in the Islamic sources, "Ravendel/Ravandal/Ravenel" in the sources of the crusader, "Aréventan" in Armenian sources, the fortress was used by all States that dominated the region in the historical process. Especially the Vıı. In the middle of the century, in the Christian-Muslim conflict in the region called "Avasım, Sügur" Ravanda Fortress was a major military base in the battles against the Christian Byzantium in the Islamic States. The region has been named as my prey because it protects the first Islamic states. The region in question; It was located between Aleppo and Antakya. In the time of the Yezîd ibn-I Muaviye, he wrote these names while counting the beldelines; Kınnassarin, Antakya, Manbic, Düluk, Raban, Korus, Tizin. The castles in the places that were counted were also from the hunt, one of which was Ravandan. Ravanda Fortress has made its name quite common since 1097. He was at the forefront of Baudouin de Boulogne, who participated in the crusade.
