KIz Kulesi, Istanbul

4.2
KIz Kulesi represents a place shrouded in history and legend. The most popular story says that the tower at the southern entrance of the Bosporus was built by an emperor as a sanctuary for his daughter, whose death was prophesized by an oracle. In fact, the original structure dates back to the 12th century, when it was built to house one side of the famous chain system used by the Byzantines to close off the entrance to the strait. Today it houses a cafe and restaurant, and is a well-known landmark that has appeared on everything from the Turkish banknotes to James Bond movies. Small boats that take you to the tower regularly depart from the city's Asian coast. Make KIz Kulesi part of your personalized Istanbul itinerary using our Istanbul trip builder website .

  • There are few sites that explain how to get there in detail, but the most easy to understand and convenient way to get there is... Take a boat ride from Eminonu to Yuscudal on the Asian side and walk to the right by the sea for about 15 minutes before you reach the dock to The Kuz Tower. The ship seems to leave every 15-20 minutes when the passengers gather to some extent. Walking from Harem on the Asian side... There was also a site that was listed, from the terminal of Eminonu - Harem is difficult to understand, i felt that the distance to walk after crossing is long.

  • We took a ferry from Eminonu to Uskudar on the Asian side. There we walk along the coast enjoying the movement of the Bosphore, until we reach this Tower of the Maiden, by Leonardo or Kiz Kulesi. Crossing on a small boat, so you can have another view of the city. There is a restaurant downstairs and a café on the top floor of the tower. Look at the ceiling: you have painted a fabulous ancient map!!
