Pamper yourself with a traditional Turkish bath experience at Kilic Ali Paşa Hamam. Known for its architecture and recognizable dome, the building housing the baths is one of the most symbolic in the district, named after a greatly revered admiral in Ottoman history who commissioned the construction of the building as part of a mosque and school complex. The original chimney and some carved stone and marble pieces found during excavation have been preserved and used within the structure. The large dome, 14 m (46 ft) across and 17 m (56 ft) high, provides light above the relaxation area within the hamam. The ancient hamam ritual is thought to restore energy and life to the body by reducing the toxins on the skin. It takes approximately 45 minutes and involves an initial douse of warm water, a period of relaxation on a warm stone, and then a body scrub delivered by an attendant. Add a massage to your visit if you wish. The facilities include changing rooms and lockers for your belongings. Note that you can keep a towel on throughout your experience, and English-speaking staff are available to answer any questions you may have. The hamam is easily accessible via public transportation. This is truly not to be missed. This was my first Turkish bath experience and I think it will be hard to top. The hammam is part of a mosque dating back to the 1500's. It has been beautifully restored and updated for the 21st century. Although I don't speak Turkish service was extraordinary. Just relaxing on the beds in the common room after the bath is worth it.
Truly superb! I was new to the Turkish bath experience and man I'm sold. The bath itself is luxurious beyond almost anything I've experienced. The massage was the best I've had in months. I cannot recommend this place enough. Tips are cash only and you'll want to tip more than you think so bring enough.
