Eyüp Sultan Mosque, Istanbul

4.7
Eyüp Sultan Mosque represents an extremely sacred site for Muslims worldwide, ranking fourth in importance. The mosque stands next to the supposed grave of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, a friend of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Al-Ansari was killed while carrying the banner of Islam during the Arab assault on Istanbul from 674 to 678 CE. The mosque was built in 1458 and served as the location for coronation ceremonies for new sultans. Marvel at the painted domes and the intricate prayer niche inside. Outside, pay your respects at the mausoleum of Al-Ansari. Dress appropriately when visiting, as the mosque attracts crowds of Muslims making the pilgrimage to visit the holy site. • For me, a place of very high sentimental value is a very valuable place mosque is very old and you can fill up with your insides praying that there are cabins in it

  • We were there at 4:00 on the morning of September 13th. It's something I've been dreaming about. A courtyard filled with the sound of ananthem was beautiful. But on the edges, God willing, the places where he was taken to see again were covered with very ugly curtains. It was an image unworthy of historical beauty. I understand that the arrangement and the environment should be corrected as soon as possible and this beauty should be changed urgently. Nevertheless, it was great with its historical texture. I liked the bag application for the shoes applied at the entrance to the mosque. Wishing to see again

  • Located next to Pier Lotti, a soothingly calm religious site. Be warned to dress appropriately and respectably or you will not be allowed to view. Whilst at the site Muslims are able to do Ziaraat for those resting in their graves
  • Nice and very spiritually situated mosque. Just make sure you respect locals when visiting as tourist and follow the etiquette of taking shoes off in a proper clean way as locals do when entering mosque
