This church is located close to the Monastery Valley ticket office and is well signposted. As we were staying in Guzelyurt, we actually visited it before breakfast (and before the ticket office... more »
This is one of the bigger churches, and what's most impressive about the size is that it's entirely carved out of a rock. There aren't many frescos here, and it is a bit off the beat track, but that can sometimes be a good thing -- there were no other people around when I was there. There are some nice views from the roof of the church as well.
The Church of Annargiros, the dome and the Church with its four pillars, and the wall paintings dating from 1877 can still be seen. The rock-carved rooms around the church were serving pilings and patients who came to the feast of St. Anargiros. This church, carved out of all the rocks, is unknown. In the rooms outside the church, deadly patients are left and prayed, if the patient recovers, it was believed that the Saints helped. After the Greeks left the county, the church used it as a pottery workshop for a certain period of time. The panoramic view over the church is worth a visit.
