Priene Antik Kenti
Admire the pillars of an ancient temple devoted to Athena, see the remains of the city wall, and explore the ruins of Priene Antik Kenti, an ancient Hellenistic city. Considered a Greek holy city, the ruins, dating back to around 350 BCE, reveal much about ancient Greek town planning and architecture. The columns of the temple are an example of pure Ionic style, and the large amphitheater, designed to seat 22,000, houses five armchair seats with lion paw armrests, thought to have been designated for guests of high importance. Enjoy a picnic on the grass as you take in the view of the mountains against the temple ruins. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes with traction, as the path to the ruins is uneven and involves a steep, and sometimes slippery, climb. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Gullubahce holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Priene Antik Kenti and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
