Set out on a journey through Anatolia's history, starting from the Paleolithic Age and ending with the present day at Anadolu Medeniyetleri Muzesi. Housed in a restored 15th-century Ottoman bazaar, the museum features over 200,000 artifacts, a portion of which are exhibited in chronological order. See the deer-shaped statuettes from the Early Bronze Age, Neolithic wall paintings, Paleolithic stone and bone tools, İznik pottery, and what is reputedly the world's most extensive collection of Hittite artifacts. Stop to have lunch in the historical setting of the nearby citadel or in one of several restaurants on the hill. Yes the museum has an extensive collection and exhibited nicely. Explanations are written in English as well a Turkish. Lighting needs to be adjusted to make the signage more legible. The audio guide is available at the entrance from the ticket seller only if you request it. I only realized that one was available after seeing the icons on cases in the museum. So I returned to rent one. The devise is a tad primitive but it works. Some of the icons are either missing or so we'll hidden, that locating some of the exhibits be ones hit and miss. Unfortunately, the central hall of the museum was closed to the public. The lame explanation elicited from one of the staff was that they were preparing an exhibit. I wrote lame, because it is possible to admit visitors to the central gallery with a small bit of imagination and for thought. The museum internet site is in Turkish. While I understand national pride, it is not pragmatic. Fortunately, someone had written an extensive article on Wikipedia with good summaries. ..........
