Kalamaki

Home to a world-famous beach serving as a protected nesting ground for endangered loggerhead sea turtles, Kalamaki sits on the southeastern coastline of Zakynthos.
Attractions like Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach) and Laganas Beach make great kid-friendly stops. The adventure continues: step off the mainland to explore Marathonisi (Turtle Island), take some stellar pictures from Bochali View Point, stroll through Kalamaki Beach, and take a pleasant ride with Laganas Horse Riding Center.

Bucharest, Romania to Kalamaki is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or take a bus. Traveling from Bucharest in August, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Kalamaki, with lows around 70°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Sun) early enough to travel to Sami.

Sami

Sami serves as Cephalonia's main port and provides a convenient gateway to the other Ionian Islands.
Bring the kids along to Myrtos Beach and Petani Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sami: Skala (Skala Beach & Dolphin Ski Club), Assos (in Assos) and Makris Gialos Beach (in Lassi). There's still lots to do: explore the fascinating underground world of Melissani Cave, look for gifts at Myrtillo, and enjoy the sand and surf at Antisamos Beach.

You can do a combination of car and ferry from Kalamaki to Sami in 3 hours. Another option is to do a combination of ferry and bus. In August, plan for daily highs up to 89°F, and evening lows to 72°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Wed) so you can travel to Nidri.

Nidri

A major yachting destination in the Ionian Sea, Nidri serves as the gateway to Lefkada's satellite islets, reachable by regular boat tours.
Start off your visit on the 12th (Thu): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Faneromeni Monastery, then kick back and relax at Kathisma Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Milos Beach, and finally take in the views from Wooden Bridge. Here are some ideas for day two: do a tasting at Lefkas Earth Winery, enjoy the sand and surf at Egremni Beach, then kick back and relax at Porto Katsiki, and finally visit a coastal fixture at Temple of Apollo Ruins.

You can do a combination of taxi and ferry from Sami to Nidri in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and taxi; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In August, plan for daily highs up to 90°F, and evening lows to 71°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 14th (Sat) to allow enough time to fly back home.

Flower of the East
Located just off the west coast of mainland Greece, Zakynthos enjoys a reputation as both a party destination and a family-friendly getaway.
