Visit The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for their historical value. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at National Gallery of Art and National Museum of the Marine Corps. When in Washington DC, make a side trip to see Chatham Manor in Fredericksburg, approximately 1h 05 min away. The adventure continues: take a stroll through Capitol Hill, explore the world behind art at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, get engrossed in the history at Smithsonian American Art Museum, and examine the collection at National Air and Space Museum.
