Emptiness surrounds the desert outpost of Uyuni, the gateway to the world's largest salt flats.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Museo de la Llama y la Sal and Train Cemetery. Get in touch with nature at Salar de Uyuni and Tunupa Volcano. There's much more to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia San Cristobal Lipez, see the interesting displays at Necropolis & Museum Kawsay Wasy, and head off the coast to Isla Incahuasi.

La Paz to Uyuni is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. When traveling from La Paz in September, plan for colder days and about the same nights in Uyuni: temperatures range from 1°C by day to 0°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Wed) early enough to travel to La Paz.
