Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Tokyo National Museum and Ginza. Museum-lovers will get to explore Edo-Tokyo Museum and Ghibli Museum Mitaka. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sat): step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, hunt for treasures at Nishiki Market Shopping District, then contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, then take an in-depth tour of Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design, and finally explore the world behind art at Hosomi Museum.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. In February, daytime highs in Kyoto are 11°C, while nighttime lows are 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Sun) to allow enough time to take a train to Osaka.

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Dotombori District and Nara Park. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotombori and Minami (Namba). Get out of town with these interesting Osaka side-trips: Himeji (Nishi no Maru, Himeji Castle, &more) and Nara (Nigatsu-do Temple & Todaiji Temple Cultural Center). There's more to do: explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle and examine the collection at Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum.

Osaka is very close to Kyoto. In March, daytime highs in Osaka are 16°C, while nighttime lows are 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Tue) early enough to travel back home.
