Situated in a basin between two mountain ranges, Taipei appeals to tourists with its blend of Asian cultures, living side by side amidst Japanese-era mansions and Taoist temples.
On the 11th (Sat), don't miss a visit to Elephant Mountain (aka Nangang District Hiking Trail), pause for some photo ops at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, then take an in-depth tour of National Palace Museum, and finally hunt for treasures at Shilin Night Market. Keep things going the next day: learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Taipei Zoo, then go for a walk through Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street), and then browse the different shops at Taipei 101.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Taipei is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Kuala Lumpur in April, things will get a bit cooler in Taipei: highs are around 30°C and lows about 22°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Sun) early enough to catch the train to Xiulin.

Xiulin Township or Sioulin Township is a mountain indigenous township of Hualien County, Taiwan. On the 13th (Mon), explore the striking landscape at Ch'ing-shui Cliff and then hike along Taroko Gorge.

You can take a train from Taipei to Xiulin in 3 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Xinyi Township.
