Well-known for the beautiful views of its famous Promenade des Anglais waterfront, Nice is an ethnically-diverse coastal port city on the French Riviera and the fifth most populated city in France.
Kick off your visit on the 28th (Sun): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedrale Saint-Nicolas a Nice and then kick back and relax at Castel Plage. On your second day here, take a stroll through Le Suquet, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Plage Naturiste De La Batterie, then get to know the fascinating history of Le Sentier du Littoral, Cap d'Antibes, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Plage du Ponteil.

Best known as a fortified town, Carcassonne is a walled city that provided the inspiration for the castle in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and the location for many scenes in Kevin Costner's movie "Robin Hood." For a daily dose of excitement, medieval jousting tournaments are held twice per day between the two walls--while this may sound like a typical touristy show, it's actually an entertaining display of combative competition and horsemanship.
Kick off your visit on the 30th (Tue): wander the streets of Cité de Carcassonne, explore the historical opulence of Chateau Comtal, then pause for some serene contemplation at Eglise Saint-Nazaire, and finally contemplate the long history of Cathar Castles. On the 1st (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: explore the historical opulence of Rennes le chateau, pause for some serene contemplation at Cathedrale St-Just, and then learn about winemaking at O'Vineyards.

Traveling by car from Nice to Carcassonne takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or take a train. Traveling from Nice in June, plan for little chillier nights in Carcassonne, with lows around 59°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Wed) early enough to drive to Avignon.

The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
On the 4th (Sat), steep yourself in history at Paul Cezanne’s Studio, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Paroisse Cathédrale Saint Sauveur Aix-en-Provence, then browse the exhibits of Hotel de Caumont - Art Centre, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathédrale La Major and then examine the collection at Site Memorial du Camp des Milles.
