With the dramatic Carpathian Mountains as backdrop, Brasov is the largest city in a region of mountain resorts.
Get some historical perspective at Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) and Viscri Fortified Church. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Mount Tampa and Manastirea Sinaia. Get out of town with these interesting Brasov side-trips: Fagaras Fortress (in Fagaras) and Sinaia (Pelisor Castle & Peles Castle). There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Prima Scoala Romaneasca, step into the grandiose world of Rasnov Citadel, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Black Church (Biserica Neagra).

Reminiscent of the height of the bourgeoisie and retaining much of its medieval architecture, Sibiu is Romania's cultural gem.
Bring the kids along to Muzeul ASTRA and Lutheran Evangelical Cathedral & Tower. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Castelul Corvinilor and Catedrala Ortodoxa Sfanta Treime. Get out of town with these interesting Sibiu side-trips: Alba Iulia (Citadel of Alba Iulia & Catedrala Reintregirii Neamului) and Expozitie Inedita: Ev Mediu. Tortura Si Executie (in Hunedoara). And it doesn't end there: take a stroll through Old Town, delve into the distant past at Turnul Pielarilor, and take in panoramic vistas at Turnul Sfatului (The Tower of the Council).
