Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Sitio Histórico de San Juan and Canyoning & Rappelling Tours. Take a break from the city and head to Luquillo Beach and Condado Beach. Go for a jaunt from San Juan to Loiza to see Monumento Historico Cueva Maria de La Cruz about 34 minutes away. For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Sun): take in the waterfront at Malecon and then enjoy the sand and surf at Balneario Sun Bay. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: kick back and relax at Playa La Chiva, tour the pleasant surroundings at Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, and then add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour.

Traveling by flight from San Juan to Isla de Vieques takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and ferry. Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
You'll get in some beach time at Flamenco Beach and Tamarindo Beach. Get outdoors at Zoni Beach and Culebrita. There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Playa Punta Soldado Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Melones Beach, and visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse.

Do a combination of taxi and flight from Isla de Vieques to Culebra in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry, car, and flight; or ride a ferry. In August, plan for daily highs up to 89°F, and evening lows to 80°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 26th (Thu) so you can catch the flight to El Yunque National Forest.
