Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Family-friendly places like Condado Beach and Turquesa Viejo will thrill your kids. You'll find plenty of places to visit near San Juan: Playa Luquillo (in Luquillo) and El Yunque Rain Forest (in El Yunque National Forest). Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
On the 7th (Wed), enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Punta Soldado Beach and then kick back and relax at Flamenco Beach. On the 8th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse, then head off the coast to Culebrita, and then stroll through Playa Zoni.

You can fly from San Juan to Culebra in 2 hours. Other options are to do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and ferry. In July, plan for daily highs up to 90°F, and evening lows to 80°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Thu) early enough to travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
On the 9th (Fri), get outside with Outdoor Activities, then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa La Chiva, and then stroll through Playa Caracas. On the 10th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the waterfront at Malecon and then kick back and relax at Balneario Sun Bay.

Getting from Culebra to Isla de Vieques by combination of flight and taxi takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of flight, car, and ferry; or ride a ferry. Expect a daytime high around 88°F in July, and nighttime lows around 79°F. On the 11th (Sun), you're off to home.
