Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Dotombori District and Himeji Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get outdoors at Nara Park and Mt. Koya. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Osaka Castle and get in on the family fun at Universal Studios Japan.

Singapore, Singapore to Osaka is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone changes from Singapore Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Singapore in March, things will get much colder in Osaka: highs are around 16°C and lows about 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Gion. Attractions like Kinkaku-ji and Ryoanji Temple make great kid-friendly stops. Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ginkakuji Temple, and hunt for treasures at Nishiki Market Shopping District.

You can drive from Osaka to Kyoto in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In March in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 16°C during the day and 5°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Wed) so you can take a train to Kobe.

Kobe

Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
On the 12th (Thu), stop by Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown), enjoy the sand and surf at Suma Beach, then pause for some serene contemplation at Catholic Kobe Chuo Church, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at Arima Onsen. On your second day here, steep yourself in history at Ishoan and then kick back and relax at Ashiya Comprehensive Park Ashiya Beach.

Getting from Kyoto to Kobe by train takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In March, daytime highs in Kobe are 14°C, while nighttime lows are 7°C. On the 13th (Fri), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
