Pearl of the Black Sea

Though most famous for the Potemkin Steps leading down the Black Sea coast, Odessa welcomes visitors with several other attractions, including beaches and an ornate opera house.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Akkerman Fortress and Church of St. Spyridon Trimifutskiy. Visiting Arcadia Beach and The Odessa Port will get you outdoors. Next up on the itinerary: take a stroll through Arcadia district, take an in-depth tour of Memorial of Heroic Defense of Odesa Museum, make a trip to Primorsky Boulevard, and appreciate the history behind Statue of the Duc de Richelieu.

For where to stay, reviews, other places to visit, and other tourist information, read our Odessa route site.

Kyiv (Kiev) to Odessa is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Kyiv (Kiev) in August since evenings lows in Odessa dip to 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.

Odessa Oblast travel guide

4.1

A lively port area, Odessa Oblast boasts bustling boardwalks lined with neoclassical buildings, a vibrant cafe culture, and ample sandy beaches. The city of Odessa's charming (although somewhat run-down) Old Town and extensive food market provide a taste of the region's culture and history, while numerous nightclubs and duty-free port shopping are popular attractions for the hedonistic traveler. Locals and tourists alike enjoy people-watching on the energetic boulevards, usually accompanied by a coffee or cold Ukrainian beer. Away from the city, the dramatic Black Sea coast, vast orchards, and a smattering of impressive historical sites populate Ukraine's largest oblast.
