The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Get out of town with these interesting Cherokee side-trips: Clingmans Dome (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park) and River Rafting & Tubing (in Bryson City). There's still lots to do: cruise along Newfound Gap Road, examine the collection at Oconaluftee Indian Village, look for gifts at Unique Gift Outlet, and try your luck at Casino at Harrah’s Cherokee.
