Jerusalem of Lithuania

The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Get some cultural insight at Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and Church of St. Theresa. Discover out-of-the-way places like Vilniaus staciatikiu Sventosios Dvasios vienuolynas and Bernardine Church (Bernardinu Baznycia). Change things up with a short trip to Kernave Mounds in Kernave (about 44 minutes away). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Money Museum of the Bank of Lithuania, soar above the sights with a balloon tour, and make a trip to Gediminas Avenue.

Characterized by the majestic Baltic coastline and adjacent white sands, Lithuania boasts lush green forests, hidden lakes, and coastal wetlands. A nation with a turbulent history, Lithuania houses the remains of a former nuclear site and the remnants of defenses used to strengthen the frontier of the Tsarist empire. At the same time, it pays homage to its national heroes, honored in sculpture parks and museums throughout the country. Today, Lithuania boasts a thriving musical, cultural, and visual arts scene, hosting a range of festivals and concerts year-round.
