Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sat): take in the natural beauty of Kamado Jigoku, then take in the natural beauty of Hells of Beppu, and then soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens. Here are some ideas for day two: shop like a local with Angel Kimono Rental Beppu, then explore the activities along Lake Kinrin, and then make a trip to JR Oita City.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Start off your visit on the 9th (Mon): take an in-depth tour of Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, steep yourself in history at Nagasaki Peace Park, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Inasa, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sofukuji Temple, and finally admire the natural beauty at Glover Garden. Here are some ideas for day two: step off the mainland to explore Hashima Island and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Ōura Church.

Drive from Beppu to Nagasaki in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In December, plan for daily highs up to 13°C, and evening lows to 7°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 10th (Tue) early enough to catch the train to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Start off your visit on the 11th (Wed): get some fabulous bargains at Tosu Premium Outlets, take in the spiritual surroundings of Tenkai Inari Shrine, take in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Temmangu, then take in nature's colorful creations at Komyozen-ji Temple, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, and finally buy something for everyone on your list at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: let the kids burn off some steam at Ohori Park, then buy something for everyone on your list at JR Hakata City Amu Plaza Hakata, and then look for gifts at Kobo Tottan.
