Take a train from Kagoshima to Kumamoto in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In December in Kumamoto, expect temperatures between 12°C during the day and 3°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Beppu.

On the 10th (Tue), let little ones run wild at Ohori Park, enjoy breathtaking views from Fukuoka Tower, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dazaifu Temmangu, then enjoy breathtaking views from Komenoyama Obsevatory, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kushida Shrine, and finally browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center.
