You can drive from Nikko to Nasu-machi in 1.5 hours. Another option is to take a train. Traveling from Nikko in October, Nasu-machi is slightly colder at night with lows of 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Fri) so you can drive to Kusatsu-machi.

Traveling by car from Nasu-machi to Kusatsu-machi takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or take a train. In October in Kusatsu-machi, expect temperatures between 21°C during the day and 14°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Sat) so you can go by car to Tokyo.

Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Kusatsu-machi in October, with highs in Tokyo at 26°C and lows at 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 22nd (Tue) to allow time for travel back home.
