Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Nakasendo Tsumagojuku. Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Sat): trek along Nakasendo Tsumagojuku, then make a trip to Osu Shopping Street, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Atsuta Jingu Shrine, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Nagoya TV Tower. Getting from Nagoya to Kyoto by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In November, plan for daily highs up to 19°C, and evening lows to 10°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Wed) so you can take a train to Kobe.

Kick off your visit on the 7th (Thu): don't miss a visit to Ishoan, soak in some Japanese tradition at Arima Onsen, contemplate the long history of Kobe Kitano Museum (Ijinkan-gai), then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ikuta Shrine, then wander the streets of Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown), and finally visit Kobe Harborland.

Kobe is very close to Kyoto. In November, daily temperatures in Kobe can reach 19°C, while at night they dip to 13°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Thu) early enough to catch the train to Osaka.

Nara Park and Osaka Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get some historical perspective at Koyasan Okunoin and Kofuku-ji Temple. Get out of town with these interesting Osaka side-trips: Kongobu-ji Temple (in Koya-cho) and Nigatsu-do Temple (in Nara). There's still lots to do: visit Dotombori, get your game on at Sunset Owl Cafe, take a stroll through Minami (Namba), and observe the fascinating underwater world at Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan.
