With the largest international airport on the island, Chitose serves for most visitors as a way in or a way out, rather than a destination in itself.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Tue): admire nature's wide array of creatures at Salmon Hometown Chitose Aquarium, see the interesting displays at Royce' Chocolate World, then buy something for everyone on your list at Chitose Outlet Mall Rera, and finally get some fabulous bargains at Mitsui Outlet Park, Sapporo Kitahiroshima.

If you are flying in from Singapore, the closest major airports are New Chitose Airport, Asahikawa Airport and Hakodate Airport. In December in Chitose, expect temperatures between 1°C during the day and -9°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Wed) so you can drive to Asahikawa.

Perched on the confluence of four rivers and surrounded by green hills, Asahikawa combines a modern city experience with the pristine nature nearby.
On the 18th (Wed), don't miss a visit to Asahikawa Station, pause for some photo ops at Takuboku Ishikawa Statue and Monument, see the interesting displays at Otokoyama Sakezukuri Museum, get to know the resident critters at Asahiyama Zoo, then relax in the rural setting at Ueno Farm, and finally find something for the whole family at Asahikawa Ramen Village.

Drive from Chitose to Asahikawa in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Chitose in December: highs in Asahikawa hover around -2°C, while lows dip to -5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Furano.

Furano

Situated in the center of the island, Furano has become known for its idyllic rural landscape, and the drastic changes it experiences as seasons shift.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Wed): soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens. On your second day here, take in the dramatic scenery at Shirahige Falls, explore the activities along Shirogane Blue Pond, stop by Campana Rokkatei, make a trip to Ningle Terrace, then hit the slopes at Furano Ski Resort, and finally take in nature's colorful creations at Garden of Wind.

Traveling by train from Asahikawa to Furano takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Asahikawa in December, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Furano, with lows of -8°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Fri) early enough to go by car to Noboribetsu.
