Dijon

— 8 nights

Gateway to Burgundy

Perhaps best known for its locally produced mustard, Dijon also makes a wonderfully flavorful crème de cassis, or blackcurrant liqueur, and boasts excellent examples of regional architecture with polychrome roofs made of tiles in terracotta, green, yellow, and black placed in geometric patterns.
Change things up with these side-trips from Dijon: Bourg-en-Bresse (Temple Protestant & Monastere Royal de Brou), Lyon (La Place des Jacobins, Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, &more) and Besancon (Temple et galerie du Saint-Esprit, La Citadelle de Besancon, &more). Dedicate the 17th (Fri) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Owl's Trail, pause for some serene contemplation at Abbaye de Fontenay, learn about winemaking at La Cave de l'Ange Gardien, and see the interesting displays at Hôtel-Dieu Museum Musée de l'Hôtel-Dieu.
