Situated on the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss, York has witnessed an abundance of major political events throughout its two millennia of existence.
Get some historical perspective at Rievaulx Abbey and York Minster. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at York Bird of Prey Centre and Treasurer's House. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around York: St Michael's Church (in Coxwold) and Helmsley (Helmsley Castle & National Centre for Birds of Prey). There's still lots to do: explore the ancient world of York City Walls, examine the collection at Yorkshire Air Museum, appreciate the history behind Inner Space Stations, and admire the striking features of King's Manor.
