Originally built as a base for Vail Ski Resort, the town of Vail has blossomed into its own destination, but still has less than 6,000 permanent residents.
Get out of town with these interesting Vail side-trips: Eagle Tourist Information Center (in Eagle), Aspen (Buttermilk Mountain, Aspen Highlands, &more) and Glenwood Springs (Thermal Spas & Cooper Corner Gallery). There's lots more to do: fly down the slopes at Vail Mountain Resort, take a stroll through Vail Valley, explore the landscape on two wheels at Vail Recreation Path, and enjoy some diversion at Ford Park.

For reviews, where to stay, traveler tips, and other tourist information, read Vail tour itinerary builder site.

Detroit to Vail is an approximately 8.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and car. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time to Mountain Standard Time is minus 2 hours. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Detroit in February: high temperatures in Vail hover around °F and lows are around °F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
