Kobe

Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Mt. Rokko and Shoshazan Engyoji. Do some cultural sightseeing at Himeji Castle and Mudoji Temple. Change things up with a short trip to Koko-en in Himeji (about 1h 5 min away). There's lots more to do: indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at Arima Onsen, walk around Togagawa Park, take in the awesome beauty at Mt.
