The main town of the Pamirs, Khorog sits in a steep river valley at the point where two rivers meet.
On the 11th (Sun), stroll around Khorog City Park, pause for some photo ops at World War II Memorial, make a trip to National Flag of Tajikistan, then contemplate the waterfront views at Bulunkul Lake, then explore the activities along Lake Karakul, and finally identify plant and animal life at Botanical Garden.

Little more than a small town at the turn of the 20th century, Dushanbe grew rapidly during the Soviet era and now serves as the national capital and home to nearly 800,000 people.
When in Dushanbe, make a side trip to see Hisor Fortress in Hisor, approximately 42 minutes away. There's much more to do: stroll around Rudaki Park, get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Tajikistan, make a trip to Ismaili Centre, and view the masterpieces at NOOR ART GALLERY.

You can fly from Khorog to Dushanbe in 2.5 hours. In August, daytime highs in Dushanbe are 97°F, while nighttime lows are 61°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Wed) to allow time to travel to Khujand.

For many, a trip to Khujand happens en route from Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan to the scenic Fann Mountains or Zeravshan Valley.
On the 15th (Thu), contemplate the waterfront views at Kayrakkum Reservoir, get a new perspective on nature at Historical Local Lore Museum of Archeology and Fortification, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Somoni park, and finally look for gifts at Panjshanbe Bozor.

You can fly from Dushanbe to Khujand in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive. Traveling from Dushanbe in August, Khujand is a bit warmer at night with lows of 68°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
