Odin's Shrine

The capital of the island of Funen, Odense represents the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, who penned such classics as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Denmark's third-largest city proudly displays its link to the famous writer with museums, sculptures, and public art installations dedicated to Andersen and his stories.
Step out of the city life by going to Afgrunden Ved Vissenbjerg and Svanninge Bjerge. Appreciate the collections at H. C. Andersens House and Valdemars Slot. Get out of town with these interesting Odense side-trips: Brende Molle (in Gelsted), Middelfart (CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art Denmark, Hindsgavl Dyrehave, &more) and Vor Frue Kirke (in Nyborg). The adventure continues: explore the historical opulence of Egeskov Castle, sample the tasty concoctions at Bryggeriet Refsvindinge, see a show at The Tinderbox (Fyrtoejet), and see the interesting displays at Johannes Larsen Museet.
