Hexham

— 4 nights
Hexham is a market town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, south of the River Tyne, and was the administrative centre for the Tynedale district from 1974 to 2009. Change things up with these side-trips from Hexham: Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens (in Belsay), West Woodburn (Slate & Nature & Mary Ann Rogers Gallery) and National Trust Wallington (in Morpeth). Spend the 30th (Wed) exploring nature at Kielder Water & Forest Park. There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Vindolanda, view the masterpieces at Robinson-Gay Art Gallery, admire the sheer force of Hareshaw Linn, and contemplate the long history of Housesteads Roman Fort - Hadrian's Wall.

Use Inspirock's suggestions to plan your Hexham trip and find the best activities and attractions for your vacation.

Newcastle upon Tyne to Hexham is an approximately 1-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or take a bus. In June, daily temperatures in Hexham can reach 19°C, while at night they dip to 10°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Seahouses.

Famous for its unspoiled natural beauty, Northumberland is considered one of the most picturesque areas of countryside in the entire UK. The region is best explored by car, on the county's well-maintained and very quiet roads. Visitors to the area often report driving distances of over 100 km (70 mi) and meeting only a dozen other cars. In a country so modernized and populous, it's hard to imagine such an undiscovered area of wilderness and tranquility. As you drive over the rugged landscape, only a few houses and some secluded villages dot the horizon. With a mere hour separating it from the Scottish capital, it has a distinctly Scottish feel.
