Capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom

Naha, the capital of Okinawa, has deep roots: Stone Age relics have been found in the city, and through the Middle Ages it rose in importance in the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Visit Aharen Beach and Nishibama Beach for some beach relaxation. Do some cultural sightseeing at Shurijo Castle and Haebaru Town Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Naha: Tokashiki-son (Hanari Island & Tokashiku Beach), Zamami-son (Hizushi Beach, Furuzamami Beach, &more) and Himeyuri Peace Museum (in Itoman). There's much more to do: get a new perspective on nature at Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, get engrossed in the history at Okinawa International Peace Research Institute, examine the collection at Okinawa Prefecture Karate Museum, and brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Sakimoto Shuzo Distillers.

Tokyo to Naha is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of train, bus, and ferry. In August, plan for daily highs up to 37°C, and evening lows to 32°C. On the 12th (Wed), you'll have the morning to explore before heading off to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Ishigaki Yaima Village and Satake Yaeyama Palm Trees Museum. Take a break from the city and head to Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour and Kondoi Beach. There's much more to do: kick back and relax at Yonehara Beach, add some fun to your beach time Fusaki Beach, explore the activities along Kabira Bay, and look and learn at Ishigakijima Observatory.
