8 days in Moab & Albuquerque Itinerary

The gateway to Utah's popular canyon country, Moab sits engulfed in the middle of desert wilderness.

Take a break from the city and head to Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Get some cultural insight at Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum and RedRock Astronomy. Take a break from Moab with a short trip to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, about 50 minutes away. There's still lots to do: immerse yourself in nature at Dead Horse Point State Park and skim along the rocks with a canyoning and rapelling tour.

Newark to Moab is an approximately 9-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and car. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -2 hour difference. When traveling from Newark in August, plan for a bit warmer days and little chillier nights in Moab: temperatures range from 92°F by day to 63°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 29th (Thu) to allow time for travel to Albuquerque.

When in Albuquerque, make a side trip to see The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, approximately Santa Fe away. And it doesn't end there: appreciate the extensive heritage of Albuquerque Old Town, take in the spiritual surroundings of San Felipe de Neri Church, stroll through Petroglyph National Monument, and have fun and explore at Explora Science Center and Children's Museum of Albuquerque.
