Takachiho-cho

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Takachiho-cho is known for nature, historic sites, and shopping. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: explore the stunning scenery at Takachiho Gorge, take in the dramatic natural features at Tokubetsuto Rice Terraces, take in the spiritual surroundings of Aratate Shrine, and go for a walk through Takachihokyo Passage.

Yakushima-cho to Takachiho-cho is an approximately 6.5-hour combination of ferry, train, and car. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of flight and bus. In November, Takachiho-cho is little chillier than Yakushima-cho - with highs of 19°C and lows of 10°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Fri) so you can go by car to Hyuga.
