Famous for its resemblance to the ancient settlements of Jerusalem and Cappadocia, Matera remains one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Museo Laboratorio della Civilta Contadina and Cattedrale Maria SS. Assunta. Explore Matera's surroundings by going to Setteventi del Pollino (in Civita), Museo del Confetto Mucci Giovanni (in Andria) and Bari (Room Escape Games & Basilica San Nicola). Spend the 16th (Mon) exploring nature at Ente Parco Nazionale Del Pollino. There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Sassi di Matera, admire the striking features of I Trulli di Alberobello - World Heritage Site, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Chiesa San Giovanni Battista, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Church of Santa Maria de Idris.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major airports are Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport, Brindisi – Salento Airport and Naples International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 52°F in December, and nighttime lows around 37°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 18th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
